Topic proposal speech 2

College tuition should be lowered.  Many students are in debt before they even start a real job or make money for themselves.  Students who go to college have to take out loans and borrow money just to get an education. Tuition should be lowered so that college is affordable and students will not be drowning in debt after they complete college. Many students pay for their own college. When students start college they are around the age 18 so they would only have 2 years prior to college to work.  Working 2 years at minimum wage is not enough to even pay for a year of school at most colleges.  Students in college would never be able to get the funds for four years of college in that short amount of time. Why should students have to pay $100,000+ just for an education? This is important because 70% of students are in debt with many loans after college.  On average it takes people 21 years to pay off their student loans.  This means that you will still be ...

Speech #2

This assignment asks us to come up with a problem to solve, and use rhetorical devices to create an argument to persuade the class to want to solve the problem.  This speech has to be around 5-8 minutes.  We also need to come up with a solution, the proposal needs to be fair and precise.  To help your presentation we need to make sure to use a power point or prezi for visual aid. The speech should make students want to help solve this problem. Question - can we use any topic - what images should our power point include

Reflection of my paper from peer reviews

After giving feedback to my peers I realized that I could use some of the feedback myself.  For example, for both of my peers papers I told the to check the in-text citations.  After talking to Mr. Paudel I realized my in-text citations were also wrong.  The correct way for an in-text citation is (last name, year, p.) after realizing this I fixed my own paper.

Intro and Methods

What does research say about eating breakfast Allie Wendell The University of Iowa Introduction How does eating breakfast effect your day?  There are many known benefits of eating breakfast that researches have been studying for a long time.  Eating breakfast is important for many reasons. When you sleep you are not eating for about seven to eight hours and since breakfast is the first meal of the day, it helps replenish all the nutrients and glucose you could have lost overnight. Breakfast also can help keep you energized for most of the day, so you are focused and ready for whatever tasks you need to complete.  Not eating breakfast can have some effects on your daily activities.  If you do not eat breakfast, you could be too tired to get through all your tasks for the day or not focused enough for these tasks. Many people think that eating breakfast means eating things like pancake...

Topic proposal

My topic for this research paper is parking at universities.  Then I will narrow it down to parking at the university of iowa and how it differs from other universities.  This is an important topic because many people at the university of iowa complain that there is not enough parking for them and they need somewhere to park their car.  To help conduct this research I will make a survey and survey student on their opinions/ if they have parking or not.  This is to see the results I get back and if they are swayed one way or another.  I will also conduct a few interviews to get more information on the research.  Two research questions are, why is parking important for students and does parking at other universities differ from our university.

IMRaD

IMRaD differs from the usual argument based papers because its more of an experiment based paper. In an IMRaD paper you need the number of participants in your study, procedures, and results.  With argumentative papers you usually just need sources to support you argument. The main points for an IMRaD paper is the intro, methods, results, and discussion. This differs a lot from a argumentitve paper because in in argumentative paper you just need headings and to support the argument you are trying to make.  An IMRaD paper also is more of an explanation of your findings and explaining the results. The set up of the paper is also different between and IMRaD paper and an argumentative paper.  For an IMRaD paper it is set up with separate paragraphs dependent on the intro methods results and discussion.  Argumentative papers are set up with titles you come up with yourself and your explain your sources or argument relating to the title.

Commercial Post

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R59TevgzN3k For my commercial I chose to use a commercial by Samsung. The purpose of this commercial is to persuade you to switch your phone to the Samsung galaxy.  The commercial is making fun of apple iPhones to show that theirs is the better phone.  The audience for this commercial is for people around the ages 12+, or people who are buying phones.  For ethos, the people in the commercial dress in casual everyday clothes to make it of a commercial for everyone.  It is a very simple commercial that does not really involve emotion.   The two people in the commercial are friends but one has a Samsung galaxy and one has an iPhone. The commercial shows a few years of both the Samsung galaxy and apple phones giving a summary on how both phones looked or worked.  Through each generation of phones Samsung is kind of pinpointing the bad parts about the iPhones and the main problems people hate about iPhones....

About Our First Writing Assignment

My first paper is about our own majors. We will interview someone who is more advanced in the field but we will also use articles and resources to understand more about the way papers our written in our majors. Many majors will use a different writing style dependent on what the point they need to get across is. This is more of an informational paper to understand the different types and styles of writing professionals are using in a certain field.  Many of my English classes were very different than this.  Our papers would either be about books we have read,  politics, or real world events.  I do believe this is a very good paper to write because it informs you on what and how you be writing in the profession you choose. Three questions about this assignment What does the goal 'Give your more information about the discipline of your interest mean'?  Where will we find the three non-academic/academic writings? Can my interviewee be my dad?
